The importance of grooming

Grooming your dog can be considered a chore to all our busy people at PledgeforPaws. But did you know that grooming your dog maintains both their physical health as well as their appearance?

  • Brushing: Removes dead hair, dirt and dandruff. Regular brushing also brings out the natural oils in the dog’s fur, you’re enhancing their Pantene shine!
  • Abnormalities: You can check your dog for any skin problems whilst grooming them, such as ticks, fleas, dry patches and/or any issues with their nails, teeth, ears and eyes such as infection or inflammation. Regular grooming means that you can detect them at its early stages before there’s a chance that anything gets more serious.
  • Better mentality: An improved mental state results from regular grooming. Dogs that feel good, are good. For example, a dog whose hair has grown too long around their eyes could impair their vision, causing them to act out and be fearful. Also, they may be less energetic and active if they have long nails because they are in pain from when they run around and play. This can lead to serious conditions such as depression, aggressive behaviour and generally, being an unhappy dog.

  1. I think it’s very important that you’ve touched upon the fact grooming is not just about your dog looking ‘pretty’. Grooming is essential for a healthy dog. I would suggest adding in other aspects of grooming. Grooming is not just about a regular hair cut but also encompasses trimming your dog’s nails and cleaning their ears. It’s really important not to neglect your dog’s nails. Many problems can arise when they become to long. For example it can get caught on something and cause the dog to rip it’s nail off. This is very painful for the dog and will also result in a minor surgery with a hefty Vet bill. Dogs are always out and about and whether they have the floppy ears or the ones that stand up right, it’s important to clean them out every now and then.

That’s our thoughts from over here at 100 happy doggy days!

  2. Reblogged this on Bonnie Pups Grooming and commented:
I also feel that this is an important aspect that every dog owner should know about grooming their dogs. As a dog groomer I try to encourage people & my customers that it’s just as important to groom their dog aswell as walking their dogs or brushing of their teeth. Plus it helps form a stronger bond between you and your animals xx

    • Definitely – grooming should be a part of a dog owner’s regular routine when caring for their dog. It is often forgotten and we hope to highlight the importance of this issue.
Thank you bonniepups for your insight!
